and the Implications of Its Satellite Position

Three functions
So we can distinguish two sides of the Moon, corresponding to two core tasks. The Moon is also the switch-point between the two (17.2). This constitutes her third task. The Moon’s attunement to the first two core tasks involves the choice between the inner planets of the ‘Es’ and the outer planets of the ‘Ich’, or between Spirit and Nature, or between the Tree of Life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, respectively. This implies a struggle on the soul level.
In her third function, the switch function, the Moon detaches itself from the ethical realm and takes up a central position. (This middle road is the central theme of the legend of Parcival, in which the feminine aspect plays a key role.)
Renewal
The New Moon stands for life’s ability to recharge, to always start afresh, even if it is in the very last minute. This capacity for renewal may be present within Nature, yet it is not of Nature. This is about intentional renewal, about a new germ that is woken up and energetically charged by the three inner planets of the ‘Es’.
Obviously, this cannot happen when we are still in our youth. That is the time when the Moon, in her function as nurturer and psychological protectress, is fully connected to growth and Self-actualization, tasks that are realized by the three outer planets of the ‘Ich’.
Maturing
Yet once we have matured physically and the Moon has finished her great work in this respect, she is in the position to nurture our growth in other fields, either in society or within ourselves.
For the further ripening of our adult functioning, the workings of the ‘Ich’ alone will not suffice; this also requires the contribution of the ‘Es’ with its integrating and truth-conveying qualities.
This means that our Moon inherently involves the assignment to learn to see through her own images. This Moon is sometimes called the transparent Moon, who sheds light on a deeper, underlying reality, the ‘Es’.
Hinge point
Even though the ‘Es’ is always present in the day sky, we cannot always readily see it. By analogy, the ‘Es’ planets, too, are fully active in us, yet at the same time they are only dimly noticeable in our psyche. However, when the three ‘Ich’ forces have sufficiently matured and all requirements for survival have been met, they may become the feeders of the ‘Es’ in our soul.
This process operates through the mirroring function of the Moon. In this mirroring, the forces are reversed, as we shall see.
Finally, our method for investigating the planet meanings, here at Inner Sky, implies that the hinge point of this reversal lies in Earth itself (that is, in Man) and is realized by its representative, the Moon.
